Emergency Electrician FAQs

Common questions about our 24/7 emergency electrical services

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly can you respond to an emergency?

We aim to reach properties in the Taunton area within 60 minutes of your call. For locations further afield in Somerset, our target response time is 90 minutes. We operate 24/7, 365 days a year, so we're always available when you need us.

What qualifies as an electrical emergency?

An electrical emergency is any situation that poses an immediate risk to safety or property. This includes complete power loss, burning smells, sparking, electric shocks, exposed wiring, or water damage to electrical systems. If you're unsure, call us - we'd rather you check than risk a dangerous situation.

How much does an emergency callout cost?

Our emergency callout fee is £75 during standard hours (Mon-Fri, 8am-6pm) and £95 for out-of-hours, weekends, and bank holidays. This includes the first hour of labour. We provide a clear written quote before starting any work, with no hidden charges.

Do you charge extra for evenings and weekends?

Yes, our out-of-hours rate (evenings, weekends, and bank holidays) is £95 callout plus £75/hour for labour beyond the first hour. Standard hours (Mon-Fri, 8am-6pm) are £75 callout plus £60/hour thereafter. All prices include VAT.

Are you available on Christmas Day and bank holidays?

Yes, we provide 24/7 emergency service every day of the year, including Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and all bank holidays. Electrical emergencies don't take holidays, and neither do we.

What areas do you cover?

We cover Taunton and all surrounding areas with a 60-minute response time. Our extended coverage includes Wellington, Bridgwater, Minehead, and most of Somerset with a 90-minute response time. Call us to confirm coverage for your specific location.

Do we need to pay upfront?

No, payment is due on completion of the work. We'll provide a clear written quote before starting, and you only pay once you're satisfied with the completed repair. We accept cash, card, and bank transfer.

Are yI qualified?

Yes, all we are NICEIC approved, Part P certified, and trained to the latest 18th Edition BS 7671 wiring regulations. We're fully insured with £5 million public liability cover for your complete peace of mind.

Will you provide certification for the work?

Yes, all electrical work is certified in accordance with current UK regulations. You'll receive appropriate certification (Minor Works Certificate or Electrical Installation Certificate) for all work completed.

What if you can't fix the problem immediately?

In rare cases where a repair requires specialist parts or extensive work, we'll make the situation safe, provide temporary solutions where possible, and arrange to return to complete the work. You'll only pay the callout fee if we can't complete the repair that day.

Do you carry parts with you?

Yes, our vans are fully stocked with common electrical components, allowing us to complete most emergency repairs on the first visit. For specialist items, we have excellent relationships with local suppliers for quick access.

What should we do while waiting for you to arrive?

If safe to do so, turn off power at the consumer unit. Keep people away from the affected area. Don't touch electrical equipment if there's water present. If there's fire or smoke, evacuate and call 999. We'll provide specific safety advice when you call.

Can you help with commercial emergencies?

Yes, we provide 24/7 emergency electrical services for businesses across Somerset. We understand the importance of minimizing downtime and can often provide temporary solutions to keep your business operating while we complete permanent repairs.

Do you offer a guarantee on emergency repairs?

Yes, all our work is guaranteed. If you experience any issues with our repair work, contact us and we'll return to resolve it at no additional charge. Our workmanship guarantee demonstrates our commitment to quality.

What if my problem isn't actually an emergency?

That's fine - we can still help. If we determine the issue isn't urgent, we can schedule a planned appointment at standard rates rather than emergency rates. We'd rather you call and check than worry about an electrical problem.

Can we book a specific time for an emergency callout?

For genuine emergencies, we respond as quickly as possible rather than booking specific times. However, if your issue is urgent but not immediately dangerous, we can arrange a same-day appointment within a time window.

Do you work with insurance companies?

Yes, we can work directly with your insurance company for emergency electrical work covered by your policy. We'll provide all necessary documentation and can often wait for insurance approval before starting work.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards, and bank transfers (BACS and faster payments). Payment is due on completion of the work.

Can you provide a quote over the phone?

We can provide an estimated price range based on your description, but accurate quotes require on-site assessment. We'll always provide a clear written quote before starting any work, so you know exactly what you'll pay.

What happens if you find additional problems?

If we discover additional electrical issues while completing your emergency repair, we'll inform you immediately and provide a separate quote for any additional work. You're under no obligation to proceed with extra work.
